Shame they couldn't install a 50 Kwh battery. Does it still only support a max of 50 Kw or will it support the max of 65 Kw ChaDeMo allows ? if still 45 Kw then that's hugely disappointing on a 40 Kwh battery. We need some range tests too , the Ioniq can get about 220 kms from only 28 Kwh and it charges at 67 Kw, or at least that's what the charger pulls from the mains as seen on my test drive here in Ireland. I'm also very disappointed Nissan still decided to go with BOSE, I have it in my 2015 and it's beyond diabolical, it's one of the worst sounding systems I've heard in a car. I'd rather it an option and install a decent set of speakers. Yes it is that bad ! The Bang And Olufsen in my Brother's 2017 Audi A3 sounds fantastic and really shows how bad the BOSE is in the Leaf. One good thing is the 150 HP in the Leaf , should make a lot more enjoyable drive.Leaf 2018 will be a good upgrade but it could have been a whole lot better. Faster charging and larger battery. From the pioneers in electric cars they have kinda lost the ball !

I'm a little disappointed with Leaf. If you have 15% degradation after only 30k km that's really bad compared to Tesla, Volt, Smart etc. I was really hoping they had the battery degradation issue worked out by now. Bummer.

Dear James did you notice when looking around the car compared to the mk1 has the rear seat leg room improved and does the door own wide ? The reason I asked is I'm 5.10 and I carry regularly passengers who have lim problems. I'm my old mk1 there knees used to touch also there was mention of a 150kw chadammo being fitted was that on this years model or is it only coming with the 60kw and sports model. Also does the car have the ability to turn off the low speed pedestrian warning?

The range is a joke. Nissan has waved the white flag.

Good review and great Nissan dealership for letting you try its pro pilot features. I just got back from my local Nissan dealership in Yukarigaoka area and it was the worst experience I've ever had. I am super interested in testing and finding out more about propilot features but unfortunately the guy would not allow us to even turn on the system. From my very disappointing experience the only way to try the pro pilot features is to take it on the highway which is the main reason for its use but c'mon Nissan…really!? So I left that place very disappointed and now in the market again in finding a similar company that has auto pilot features. Tesla is way overpriced… Any other cars out there that has similar features? We drove the 2017 xtrail. Came in to try the pro pilot but we were not even allowed to turn the thing on! Wow! Thanks for the great review! this is probably the closest Id get to seeing pro pilot in action. Funny how you try to test drive a car to find how good its bells and whistles are and you can't even use it!!!! Gotta love Japan;)!

Based on your helpful reviews and this video https://youtu.be/2b3ttqYDwF0 I just bought my First EV the eNV200 7 seater. Thank you for doing what you do, looking forward to the longer range env200 early next year, hope you can do something on that when it comes out, keep up the good work!

Does the new hand brake disengage automatically when you start moving? That is the one feature I really miss on my last car compared to our Leaf.

Thanks for the nice video with a lot of information! Couple of questions. How are the plastics on the dashboard and door like? Is it hard plastic or does it include soft touch plastics? Yesterday I have been inside a pre production 40 kWh Nissan Leaf in the Netherlands which had no soft touch plastics. I also noted Yesterday that the door armrest had a lot of ‘piano black glossy plastic’ is that still the case in the production model? Thanks in advance for your answers 🙂

Given the Japan launch date I was expecting to see more info about the car by now from but yours is really the only source I've found that isn't marketing-related.  Thanks for the in-depth review!

The 60 kWh battery pack version will probably cost about $5,000 more. Unfortunately, that won't be very competitive with the Bolt or Model 3.

Good video James. Thanks for taking all that time for multiple test drive's. I did not know the 60 kWh will be LG , interesting. I'm just waiting for this 2018 model to trickle down to the used market so I can buy one.
