Very true. What embarrassing is the Camaro ZL1 1LE ($68,000) car was running times similar to the mid engine exotics (570s, Ford GT, etc) at the track. Yes, the Camaro ZL1 1LE was running with the Ford GT ($500,000) car. GM really has the 1LE and C7 Vette dialed in. It will be interesting to see the track times for the C8.

When were Mero’s statements made? So much context missing here.

I take it nobody remembers the list of glitches and problems with the "all new 1984 Corvette"!I was there and the car looked fantastic in every way except the build quality.. Personally I do not like the look of this C8 and the rear end is just awful looking..

I've never been big Corvette fan but this new one has me very excited. I've loved it from the moment I saw it. If I had the money, I'd have my order in. I'd be perfectly happy with the base model. Chevy might be still working out a few bugs. I recall there were many false starts with the current NSX, including fires. Btw, are the deposits non-refundable?

He seems to merely be noting they are making major changes to a highly successful platform and that he is concerned it be done properly. Nothing more.

It’s a Chevy so we know it’s junk anyway.

I'm hoping for the z06/ZR1 release..and will for sure be bypassing the base C8. By then the first run bugs will be resolved on the platform and everything should be good…2022??

This is all I need to read. "Mid-Engine Corvette Chassis Reportedly Can't Handle the Power". I'm curious to see what happens when people actually TT them and other power mods.

OK, sorry about that post, I was upset at something else when I wrote it and shouldn't have blasted you. I apologize. Like you I have been waiting for years and Corvette generations for the Corvette to go mid engine…we're in good company I guess because Zora Duntov could see the advantages almost 60-65 years ago. If you look at high level race cars, they began transitioning to mid engines back in the mid 1960's. Reference Indy 500, Le Mans Prototypes and Formula One. Tadge Jechter (Spelling incorrect) stated that the reason Chevy changed to a mid engine layout was because they had pretty much maxed out the potential of the front engine layout. To stay competitive or hopefully dominate in the future Chevy had to finally step into the 21st century. Note to mention electrical motors assisting or replacing internal combustion. My big fears are that it will take some time for GM to fully figure out the mid engine thing and my even bigger fear is that owners/drivers will try to drive the C8 like a C7 and end up wreaking a lot of Corvettes in the first year or two and give the car a bad reputation. Like Mustang drivers have gotten for having more enthusiasm than wisdom or knowledge. I once again apologize for unloading on you. I appreciate your love of the brand and sharing your thoughts through your videos.

Dear "Corvette C8", give me a break!!! The car isn't even in production yet ! The cars that exist are hand built pre-production prototypes that are still lacking final tuning and refinements…of course they are not going to hand them out for public or press testing. they would be slaughtered by the ignorant press who don't understand the process and complexities of developing a dynamic product with so many parts and systems. They are still almost 4 months away from production, which means there is still a lot of work to be done on the cars before the first examples start to be released. Once production actually starts they will run a number of early production prototypes to test for rattles, handling nuances, electrical systems etc. There is a huge step from these pre-production samples to full running production. There is a reason first year production has a reputation for having problems. Get a clue!

Thanks for the very interesting information regarding the new C8. It makes a lot of sense too.

Nothing on Jim Mero but if he was not actively apart of the C8 program, people need to take his words with a grain of salt. He is or was not the only engineer at GM. I’m sure this car will be fine.

It is the No Man's Sky version of a car. It is overhyped, will fail miserably and will be filled with glitches and issues. Then, it will make a complete turnaround and become a truly great car, with future improvements.

The reason why and I have said this on the c8 Facebook page this car has just been released…my god do you really think they will cut it loose in the pre sale stage when they are still twerking all the benchmarks .🤦🏽‍♂️ seriously I don't know why people are so worried for the c8.Testing and putting the c8 through it's paces won't be around till next summer. And if people are still skeptical take back your deposit and buy a the new mustang.
